Here are my top 30 songs for the Year in Music 2009 project I'm doing with my friends. We ask for everyone's votes and then we tally them and make a mix cd based upon the results. While I wasn't completely blown away this year by any bands like I have been in years past, I did think there were some really strong albums this year and some bands that are pushing the boundaries in good ways. I'm really glad that I went to Bonnaroo this year because I saw a lot of the bands that made my YIM list and that's pretty cool. I also saw Sonic Youth for the first time, so being able to check them off of my "People to see before they die list" is a great accomplishment as well. Anyway, here's my list:

Rank - Song - Artist - Album
1 My Girls - Animal Collective - Merriweather Post Pavilion
2 Young Hearts Spark Fire - Japandroids - Japandroids
3 Two Weeks - Grizzly Bear - Veckatimest
4 Stillness Is the Move - Dirty Projectors - Bitte Orca
5 Zero - Yeah Yeah Yeahs - It's Blitz!

Bring on 2010!

Today is my last full day of work in 2009. I have to check in next week but most of my teammates will be out of the office an I took tomorrow off for Preston's vet appointment and my car inspection and Christmas shopping.

It's been a good year. I'm incredibly grateful to still have my job. To top off that thankfulness, we got a little surprise this morning at the staff meeting. The company exceeded $100 million in revenue in 2009, a first for us. It's a momentous occasion for an agency and a yardstick by which big agencies are measured. We also had an incredible profit margin, higher than the last two years. So they decided to spread the wealth a big. Can you say $1000 bonus? Aww yeah.

Now in addition to my regular duties on Alltel and seeing that transition through, I'm also putting together media ideas for Walmart, Pizza Hut and planning for Chobani Greek yogurt. I'm excited to see what 2010 holds.

Here's a video of what I think will be a leading change agent in the media world next year.

I wrote some new songs. They're based on my usual themes of rainbows and sunshine and unicorns.

Here is a video that I just taped using my iPhone. I don't even have the video iPhone, but just what is essentially a regular cell phone with a camera and a microphone and a 3G connection (and some processing power). I could see this being a pretty revolutionary service. This new iPhone app called Broadcaster from a company USTREAM is now available and free on iTunes. Apparently there's been an Android version out for a while. So you can broadcast live from your phone and then save the video and share it immediately across Facebook, Twitter, and other social sites if you wish. I just did an experiment to see what the service is like. You can see a boring video of my computer at work and a bit of my face at the end here:

My dearest LJ friends, I have decided to give Twitter a go on the advice of Tudds. 'If you want to get a book published, they're gonna want you to have a Twitter account.' Damn the 21st century. Anyway, if you want to read my boring, self-indulgent posts then 'follow' me at StephenWhatever (I didn't spend much time thinking of the name, alright? Oh, shut up...)
